It's The Little Things...

Today one of my co-workers whom I also consider a friend celebrated her 65th birthday. One of Joyce's friend's decided to invite her friends to have cake and ice-cream, unbeknowst to Joyce. I went down to the conference room and everyone filed in. We waited 10 minutes for the birthday girl.

She was shocked to say the least, you could see the surprise on Joyce's face. She later said, when she saw all the people gathered together her knees went weak. Joyce made a speech that touched my heart. She said sometimes we don't get that type of appreciation from family, and how good it made her feel to know that someone cared.

A couple of the female's got teary eyed, while one of the two men present, (I believe one was Joyce's manager) had jokes.

I knew what Joyce meant, and it is wonderful to be appreciated and know that someone cares. I met a young woman last week at my doctor's office and she mentioned her mother had passed in May, after a valiant fight against lung cancer. She and other family members had a birthday party for her mother, three weeks before her death.

The event the young lady, Keisha described sounded simply awesome. Keisha said it was like they had a funeral for her mother while she was still living. Relatives and friends bought flowers, and gave testimonies of how Keisha's mother had touched their lives.

To sum up Joyce and Keisha's Mom's experiences, sometimes it's the little things, that mean the most in life as well as the satisfaction of knowing someone cares.

Michelle's Weekly Musings

Hello,

It's been awhile since I've blogged. I tried it for a moment, and actually enjoyed it, until other committments reared their ugly heads. I am going to try blogging again, and this time do it on a weekly basis. So this is my first blog in a long while.

I was born and raised in the Chicagoland area. I am married, and the mother of two adult daughters. I have a ton of sisters, brothers, nieces and nephews. I've been employed in the IT field too long to count.

In 2002, my life changed forever. I have always written poetry for family, and friends. One of my sister's friend's self-published a book and my sister urged me to do the same. I wrote my first book A Myriad of Emotions, and it was published by Ebony Energy Publishing in March of 2003.

I was bitten by the writing bug, and followed up A Myriad Of Emotions with Crisis Mode, Mirrored Images, and Who's Your Daddy.

I contributed to 2 anthologies in 2006, Blended Families, and The Midnight Clear.

I received a 2 book contract from Urban Books, and Keeping Misery Company was released in November of 2007 and The Legacies in July of 2008.

I love reading and that translated to a love of writing. I found my passion.

Enough about me for now, check in next week for more of Michelle's Musings!
